The standard is a defined rate, not a search fallback
For FY2027 the standard CONUS allowance is $113 for a lodging night and $68 for a full day of meals and incidentals. The prior FY2026 lodging figure is $110; the full-day meal figure is also $68.
The standard generally applies to counties not specifically listed as non-standard areas. A city may be absent by name while still belonging to a listed county. That is why an unsuccessful city search is not enough to choose the standard.
Check three things first
- Make sure the location is in the 48 contiguous states or Washington, DC. Alaska and Hawaii are outside this dataset.
- Check the applicable fiscal year and read the complete locality definition for nearby named destinations.
- Resolve the county or independent-city boundary for the work address, using the official source if necessary.
Our ZIP lookup sometimes returns an explicit “Standard CONUS” mapping from the GSA file. That is different from inventing a standard-rate result for an unknown ZIP.
Apply normal travel-day rules
The FY2027 standard M&IE amount on the first and last days is $51 before meal deductions. A two-night, three-day trip budgeted at the room ceiling is $226 for lodging plus $170 for meals, totaling $396 before taxes and other expenses.
A private employer can adopt a different policy. The presence of a federal standard does not establish an employee’s entitlement to that amount.
